WPIW Refresher - What is Primary Immunodeficiency?

As we prepare for WPIW next week, we thought it would be helpful to share a refresher for new visitors and followers who might not know what Primary Immunodeficiency (PI) is.

Primary Immunodeficiencies are a group of more than 450 disorders of the immune system with varying degrees of severity. Our immune system is our main defense in fighting off infections, germs, bacteria, and viruses, but it doesn’t always work for everyone. PIs occur when one or more essential parts of the immune system do not work correctly.

People living with PI are sick more often than others and may experience frequent infections that impact their quality of life. This is why it’s so important to ensure the earliest possible diagnosis and treatment to avoid more serious illnesses. Early and accurate diagnosis improves quality of life and prevents possible future infections or illnesses. Patients can start receiving the best possible treatments to keep them healthy and strong!

We hope you’ll join us on our mission to spotlight PI patients worldwide throughout WPIW and provide hope for a better future!
